The secret

★★★★☆
It’s taken me a long time to finally watch it and yes I know many of you have already been there and done that, but better late than never.  I watched The Secret.  I have to confess I read about it before it had arrived in New Zealand, owned it before most people even knew what it was and now after all this time have finally watched it.

Yes, I can hear you all say why didn’t you do that earlier?  But it’s like this, you really have to be at a place in life where you are going to take it on board otherwise it’s a complete waste of time.  You know what I mean you can read all the self-help books and watch all the DVD’s you like, but it’s not going to make a jot of difference if you aren’t able to put any of it into practice.

So why have I given it four stars, because you know that is quite high for me.  Well it’s good in a word, it’s easy to watch and it just makes sense.   The Secret is basically about what they refer to as the ‘Law of Attraction’ meaning what you put out for in life you get back.  So if you run around unhappy and negative, always expecting the worse then that’s what you get back.  On the other hand if you are positive and open to challenges and change that’s what you get.

They refer to one of the things I do all the time as an example.  Whenever I am going anywhere in the car, I always visualise me arriving there and a car park is free.  So I always get car parks, now I am renowned for this and it really cheeses my girlfriends off because they can never get a park.  I always do and so this is the theory behind the ‘Law of Attraction’, what you put out is what you get back.

Yes they do tell you how to do this and give you the steps necessary to make those changes.  Now it wont happen overnight but they say if you start behaving like the ‘Law of attraction’ good things will happen.

You can buy all sorts of stuff about the secret, but really it’s not necessary.  The only two things to look at are either the DVD or the book.   Now in my case as you would expect, I have both.   Primarily because I had the book for ages and could never find the time to read it, so I bought the DVD and it was much easier to sit down to watch that instead.  I have picked up the book now I know what it’s about and am referring back to it. You need to do that to cement the process in your head.

Where I do think it let itself down was with the start.  I want to stress that you shouldn’t be concerned when you first start watching it that  it’s some kind of weird cult recruiting exercise.  Give it a chance, the speakers appear and it starts to unfold in a very simple, understandable way.  I don’t subscribe to the whole “it dates back centuries” rubbish.  I just believe that this is a good idea and it makes sense to me.  What you put out there in the world, is what you are going to get back.

There will be those who want to disprove this theory and each to their own.  I certainly don’t buy into mumbo jumbo either, but this is certainly worth thinking about.  I am going to re-think my attitude and where I invest my time and energy.

In these difficult times we are in, anything that gives a helping hand is wanted in my view.

Try my car parking trick.

ABBA is cool

Abba Singstar

★★★★★
I bet you didn’t’ know that I was a closet ABBA singer and when you can’t hear me, I am really good.  Seriously though ABBA SingStar is fantastic and yes I know that it has been out for ages but I get so much enjoyment out of it, I thought it’s worth mentioning.  I was a little sceptical when it first came out given I felt that I had moved on from that period in my life, but it appears not.  I just love it and for any of us who grew up in that era how can you not enjoy singing to their greatest hits.

I even feel that I have mastered all the head movements and the side to side turns, which can be a little tricky on your first go, but hey don’t let that stop you.  I am sure I looked cool despite what my ten year old says.  But really, how can you not enjoy yourself with this one and even the ones who sit on the couch and point can be seen foot taping at some of the songs.

This is a fun way to spend an evening and girls just love it, when they have gotten over the embarrassment of their mother singing.  This would make a great present for someone who you know has a play station, not much point if they don’t.  A fun girls night out for your girlfriends or just even belting out a couple of tunes when there is no one around can brighten your day.

So if you thought it was uncool, it’s not! I am now officially deeming this to be a cool gift for anyone or just simply a fun way to spend an evening with your kids and friends.

Worry less, live more

DontWorryBeHappy We all know at the moment times are tough, how can we have not noticed.  Like many of you I am really sick of having the Recession rammed down my throat by the media, it’s hard not to think they are partially to blame.

So when I came across this wonderful saying I thought I’d like to share it with you.  It’s my little bit of inspiration to keep us all sane, to help us keep a little bit of perspective when life may seem to be depressing.

Print it out and stick on your fridge or a wall you look at everyday and here’s hoping it gives you the same lift it gives me every time I see it.  Enjoy it and may it make you worry a little less tomorrow.

WHY WORRY

In this life there are only two things to worry about.
Either you will be rich or poor.

If you are rich, there is nothing to worry about.
But if you are poor, there are only two things to worry about.

Either you will be healthy or sick.
If you are healthy, there is nothing to worry about.

But if you are sick, there are two things to worry about.
Either you will live or you will die.

If you live, there is nothing to worry about.
If you die there are only two things to worry about.

You will either go to heaven or to hell.
If you go to heaven, there will be nothing to worry about.

If you go to hell, you’ll be so darn busy shaking hands with all your friends, you won’t have time to worry!

SO WHY WORRY?

‘bent’ a must have for your hair

bent

★★★★★
I have found what could be my new favourite thing.  A friend of mine is a hairdresser, very handy and especially when she gives me the heads up on what’s new and cool in the Hairdressing world.

It’s called bent, my new very easy and fun way to do my hair by wrapping it around the tong and creating these amazing curls.  I am no hairdresser so anything complicated you can just kiss goodbye to with me, but believe it or not I can do this myself.

So what is bent, well it’s a ‘ceramic curling tong’ with advanced cuticle protection technology and is designed by the master of hair himself Richard Kavanagh.  While working in the forefront of the fashion industry creating the latest looks for celebrities, music videos, magazines, etc he couldn’t find premium hairstyling tools.  So he developed his own.

While most heated hair styling tools can damage your hair after use, the beauty with this tong is that it helps to protect your hair by locking in moisture which creates your lovely curls and waves.  After you have dried your hair it seriously only takes five minutes.

The digital temperature settings allow you to control how much of a curl you want and the automatic timer takes all the worry away if you ever forget to turn it off.  The tong heats up in record time, comes in four different sizes and 360 degree swivel cord with a hanging hook.  The best part is the display which shows exactly what the temperature is and you control that yourself and is available in four different sizes.

So create your way to the latest in big stunning hair for 2009 with the bent, it’s really easy to use and great value for money.  My daughter can’t wait for me to try it out on her.

Hot Tip: Don’t forget to use a heat protector before you use the bent - not only does it protect your hair, it also helps the curls to last longer.

I have given it a 5 out of 5, which is unusual for me, but really its that good.
