Cadbury how could you!

Ok so it’s official, another icon just like Michael Jackson has gone. Why oh why do the things we know and love have to change? What am I so upset about? Well would you believe it’s Cadbury chocolate?
The cats out of the bag. Yes the chocolate is smaller, 20% less in fact. It’s in a different packet and downsized from a 250gm to a 200gm, and no you are not wrong, it doesn’t taste the same either. That has also changed. They have decreased the amount of cocoa butter by 5% and substituting it with palm oil. Yuck!
Cadbury chocolate is like the holy grail. Don’t they know that it’s part of our history and they can’t mess with that? It’s one thing to have changed the packaging, we can live with that. Then there’s manufacturing it in Australia, not ideal but yes we can live with that too, but to change the recipe, are you kidding?
What’s that saying ‘if it aint broke then don’t fix it’? Why mess with something that is a huge success and further more what kind of bozos do they think we are? Did they think we wouldn’t notice them changing the taste? How can we not notice the taste, the new chocolate is awful. It definitely has that Kremelta taste.
Cadbury on the other hand are claiming that it is the first time they have changed the look of the blocks of chocolate in 25 years and the 50gm reduction is so they can make the blocks more affordable. But seriously it sounds pretty lame to me. Whilst we don’t like to have to pay more for our favourite chocolate, most of us would if it meant it stayed our favourite chocolate. If we wanted cheap and nasty, there are other brands we could buy. We don’t need Cadbury to force us to buy cheap and nasty. They also say they have cut the price they sell to retailers and that means we shouldn’t be paying any more than $3.99 for 200gm block.
Cadbury also claim that the change in recipe shouldn’t affect the taste and that it should be softer. The good news they say is all the base ingredients are from New Zealand, whoope is all I say to that. It still doesn’t change the fact that it doesn’t taste the same, in fact bloody awful springs to mind and no I wont be sneaking it into my trolley anymore under the guise it’s for my husband.
It’s off in search of a replacement now. But maybe its for my own good. Do you have any idea how long I have to walk on the treadmill to burn off a block of chocolate? Doesn’t bear thinking about really. Shame on you Cadburys.
Price:$3.99 200gm block Available: all supermarkets

You are not wrong about the new Cadbury chocolate, we have switched to Whittaker’s chocolate which tastes gorgeously creamy and it is made in our own Porirua, Wellington!

The “new” taste is awful - tastes like cheap compound chocolate. I won’t be buying Cadbury’s again.

Sounds like a win = win situation for Cadbury.
If people say nothing and accept the change, more profit for Cadbury shareholders. If people ‘kick up a stink’ and complain about the change, it’s free advertising for Cadbury. Remember, Cadbury hasn’t become NZs favourite chocolate brand by quality… it’s primarily because of their massive Advertising Spend. My 2c.

I cannot believe Cadbury has done this. I have loved Cadbury chocolate for years but I will no longer be purchasing it. Whittakers must be loving this! This is the first time I have heard of a business giving up a captive market - Cadbury obviously doesn’t need our money. Shame on you Cadbury

What were Cadbury thinking, we weren’t going to notice they had changed the recipie?
July 6th, 2009 at 6:47 pm
well if you think of it from Cadbury’s point of view this could be a chance to make even more money - they release the “new and improved” version, its unpopular, then they re-release the original flavor and people think that they have stopped idiots so they start buying cadbury chocolate again and make millions.

Have you seen the new Whittakers add. Absolutely brilliant. I love it when the under dog takes advantage of the mistakes made by the domanant player.

I have always been able to taste the difference between Aus and NZ Cadbury - I used to check the labels on the Easter eggs to make sure I was buying a NZ made one so I knew it had that smoothy creamy taste. I am so disappointed that I won’t be able to taste the Dairy Milk I grew up on. The new stuff is gross!!! Listen to us Cadbury - change it back!!

I am absolutely furious with Cadbry’s. Everyone should be CALLING RADIO STATIONS and complaining. We should also boycott ALL CADBURY”S PRODUCTS until Cadbury’s revert back to the original recipe, just like Coca-Cola was forced to do in the 80’s.
Vote with your feet people and don’t buy Cadbury’s till it’s fixed!

the price went up, both the size and quality went down. It tastes like compound chocolate, which is disgusting. We will switch brands.

I thought that I could taste the difference but wasn’t sure if it was in my mind just cos of all the advertising, so my friends and I (4 of us) cut up some of the new Cadbury Dairy Milk and some Whittakers Creamy Milk and did a blind taste test. All 4 of us actually ended up picking the Cadbury chocolate as still being way nicer than Whittakers. Maybe it’s not as good as it used to be, but it’s still a lot better than Whittakers. It’s still on special in lots of supermarkets at $2.99 too while Whittakers is always $3.49! Besides Dairy Milk is only one of many flavours. My favourite Caramello is still as good as ever!!

The nation is outraged by this! The biggest problem is the addition of Palm Oil (disguised as Vegetable Fat) which not only creates lower quality, crappy tasting chocolate, but is destroying the rainforest in Indonesia and contributing to the extinction of the Orangutan our close cuzzy!

This new Cadbury chocolate is no different to the cheap crap my Grandma buys at Christmas from the Warehouse.
This is the biggest PR disaster Cadbury’s NZ has ever made. Thank god for Whittaker’s.

Someone will be getting sacked at Cadburys - i have been cadburys-only for years till now
July 21st, 2009 at 7:26 pm
Might as well change the name, too!!!
Grr CADBURY!
On the other hand, what about Whittakers? And Lindt? Lindt is good, but expensive. And seriously, they said it would be cheaper, but they made it smaller at the same price! OHH MEE GEE!
I havn’t tried, but will try 2morrow. They say they switched it with Palm oil? Isn’t that from PALMS??? And you say its in CARDBOARD? Stupid, stupid cadbury. Isn’t it, like, an icon?

yes you are welcome to use content on the Cadburys article I wrote, glad you liked it.

Well there you go, who knew that creating such a fuss would result in Cadburys doing a complete U-turn and taking the Palm Oil out. Good on you Cadburys for acknowledging your mistake and fixing it. We will all be able to sleep again at night.

I noticed that is tasted different, but i had no idea that it had changed until i read this webpage. It tastes less creamy and more like nestle. What is that about???
And as for Being taken over by American Kraft….why do we even bother in this country anymore?
