Having worked in a customer service industry all my life and now running my own online store for fashion accessories, www.floozy.co.nz (sorry had to get a plug in there) I'm well aware of the importance of not just attracting new customers but also keeping existing customers, this is something I work hard at and I think our customer service is excellent at Floozy.
I'm constantly astounded by businesses that don't seem to have that attitude and think that the customer is there for them, rather than the other way around!
I don't think those glory ‘I don’t really care if you come back again’ days, that you refer to should have ever existed in the first place! 
I hope you vote with your feet and don't return to the beauty therapy house that treated you badly! Have a great trip to Fiji, hope you get better service at your resort!</description>
