massage

★★★★☆
You know when you see the words amazing and value in the name of a business that you think this is either going to be really good or one big disappointment.  You know what I mean, there’s always those ads on TV making these claims that suck you in and make you buy that set of ‘Last for Forever Non Stick Pots’.  Only to find out that after the first time you have used them they aren’t so amazing after all.

Well the other day I decided to finally do something about getting a massage, I have been back at the gym for the last month and need some extra help with getting all the knots out of my muscles.  So I wanted to find somewhere I could go to on a regular basis, because I knew this wasn’t going to be a one off quick fix.  I did my research and figured that there must be somewhere that Massage Therapists go to train and that it would be at discounted rate.

I was right and it’s called the ‘Amazing Value Massage’ and that’s exactly what it is.  Amazing Value and I was really pleased I went.   I had probably the best massage I have ever had and I will go back on a regular basis.  The best part about it is at $40.00 for what turned out to be about 1 hour 15mins, you can spend alot more than if you were to go to a Beauty Therapist or a fully trained Massage Therapist.

The surroundings are basic and it’s very clean and tidy, also your experience may differ depending on what Therapist you get.  But a $35.00 to $45.00 a pop you can afford to keeping trying them out,  till you are happy.  I hit the jackpot on my first go with a lady called Christine Gillespie who was fantastic.

This clinic was established many years ago to meet 2 key objectives: 1) to provide exceptionally well priced Massages to members of the public, on a regular full-time basis, at a price the reflects the training level of the Massage Therapists, and 2) to provide advanced students of The Wellington School of Massage Therapy with the opportunity to work in a central city clinic while they continue to study more advanced training. Open 7 days.

Bras

★★★★★

We don’t always get to be so lucky, in Wellington, as to have someone who has been voted the best in New Zealand at what they do and I bet you can’t guess what that is.

Well for all you women out there today is your lucky day because I am going to tell you who she is and exactly what she does.

Robyn Ladd is a Sales Consultant at Farmers Lambton Quay in Wellington. Her job is to fit women into bras and she has been voted ‘New Zealand’s Best Bra Fitter’. So how do you get to be number one in this job? Well not only has she been doing this for years, she is really passionate about it as well.  Robyn takes such great care in helping woman get it right and for some reason even though a bra is part of our everyday wardrobe, we seem to get it all so wrong.

Did you know that not only can wearing the wrong size bra contribute to back problems, but wearing the right one can take a dress size off you in an instant?   Now that’s my idea of how to lose weight, very little effort involved just a new bra.  It really is the most important piece of clothing you can have and most of us dedicate the least amount of time to choosing it.

So why do we do this?  Well it’s a mine field out there really and it all seems to be a little bit to hard.   Where do you go?  What should you look at when you get there?  You go and get your size only to get it into the changing room and it doesn’t fit.  Why not?   I was this size last time a bought a bra.

Well as always there is a logical reason for all this and that is, bra fitting is a science.  No seriously, it is and I know this because I did it for a few years as a job.  Yes, really I did and what I learned was that we are all created differently and therefore one size, when it comes to bras, does not fit all.

This is where the wonderful Robyn comes in, not only does she know every single bra in her department, she can find the right one to fit you.  All you have to do is turn up, how easy is that.  You can phone to make an appointment with her and she will dedicate her time to only you which makes this effortless.

So next time you are needing a new bra, you now who to call. She looks after you like part of her family.

Pureology

★★★★★
Ok so I am in heaven.  Do you think it’s possible to enjoy your shower so much more in the morning because you have changed your hair shampoo?  I know your thinking I really have gone mad and that you are going to have to send the people in white coats to take me away.  How can hair shampoo ever be that exciting?

Well I am about to let you in on my latest and greatest find and it comes in the form of hair products called Pureology.  So why am I so excited?

Well never before have I used a product that has made such a difference so fast.  Now that’s a big statement from me and I will tell you why.  For as long as I can remember I have had a sensitive scalp, I can’t use any supermarket products and only selected salon ones as well.  This really only confirms to my husband that he is married to the worlds most expensive woman and there is a striking similarities between me and the ‘Princess and the Pea’ story.

Anyway I have been waiting for this product to hit New Zealand after all the buzz in the US about it and here it is.  After the first time I used it,  the psoriasis behind my ears which has been there for years has completely gone.  My hair is shinier and than before and coupled with the fact I have also been using their blow drying product my hair has never looked better.  I’ve had many comments on how good I have looked, boy I’ve been having a big week.

So if that alone isn’t enough to convince you her are some more reasons and also explains why it’s so good:

  • Anitfade complex with powerful antioxidants and sunscreens to help protect your hair and retain your colour longer.
  • It smells divine and is like using silk on your hair, also you don’t need to use very much so lasts for ages.
  • It prides itself as being a ZeroSulfate shampoo, it’s designed to gently cleanse the scalp whilst optimizing colour retention.
  • It’s 100% vegan ingredients is infused with organic botanicals and contains no chemicals or synthetic pesticides.
  • There is a range for you to choose from depending on what you might need, there is Volume range, Hydrating range and the Essential Hair Repair System.

It gets the whooping big 5 out of 5 for me as this truly is an amazing product which I don’t know that I can ever stop using, so give it a go and I guarantee you wont be disappointed and as always I have saved the best for last.

Pureology guarantee that if after using their shampoo and conditioner together for 30 consecutive days and within 4 weeks you are not satisfied they will refund what you paid for the product.

Available: at selected salons phone 0800 REDKIN for more stockists            Price: depends on size but starts at $40.00 for the shampoo and $48.00 for the conditioner and the Volume Blowdry product.  Remember though, a little goes along way and they will last for ages if you are sensible with them.

Need to unblock? Have you tried NLP

How’s your life going? Are you achieving the things you want to? Or is there something standing in your way but you don’t quite know what?  If things are not going the way you want them to, no doubt you are blaming yourself for lacking motivation. You probably keep saying “this should be simple, why can’t I just do it?” Worst of all, you probably tell yourself that everyone can do it.”

Nike has a famous slogan “Just Do It!” Simple to say but not so simple to do. You may need something to “un-block” you and Neuro-Linguistic Programming could be the answer. What would you say if I told you that you can re-focus your thinking and change how you feel about something with NLP?  Amazing is all I can say and life changing.

So what is NLP and why is it so good?   Well I am going to give you my uneducated guess because I don’t know if you ever really will know the extent of what NLP is, it may require a professional to explain it to you.  But in a nutshell NLP provides amazingly simple, powerful methods for changing the way you think, feel, act and learn. In essence, all of NLP is founded on two fundamental presuppositions:

1. The Map is Not the Territory. As human beings, we can never know reality. We can only know our perceptions of reality. We experience and respond to the world around us primarily through our sensory representational systems. It is our ‘neuro-linguistic’ maps of reality that determine how we behave and that give those behaviours meaning, not reality itself. It is generally not reality that limits us or empowers us, but rather our map of reality.

2. Life and ‘Mind’ are Systemic Processes. The processes that take place within a human being and between human beings and their environment are systemic. Our bodies, our societies, and our universe form an ecology of complex systems and sub-systems all of which interact with and mutually influence each other. It is not possible to completely isolate any part of the system from the rest of the system. Such systems are based on certain ’self-organizing’ principles and naturally seek optimal states of balance or homeostasis.

Ok so that’s one of the official explanations you could get someone to give you, mine is far simpler.  What we perceive we believe.

With NLP you get a systematic approach to understanding how your perception of something can prevent you from achieving what you want to achieve. With that understanding, you can re-programme your perception and break though the barriers that you place in front of yourself.

I am pretty sceptical about anything like this but when I tried NLP I was stunned by the results. I found it to be a really practical approach to something that is normally pretty fluffy.

Here’s the catch, do your homework before you go to see just anyone.  It doesn’t come cheap to re-arrange your thoughts and at around $130 for anywhere from an hour to an hour and a half, you need to make sure you are seeing someone good.

My recommendation would be Charlotte Hinksman in Wellington and if you are out of the Wellington area she may know of someone else you can contact closer to you.  You can contact Charlotte on 021 701 138 or chinksman@gmail.com

Price:  varies on practitioner but generally around $100 - $140 a session
